I think you should take a look at this, when you get to the page, make sure to choose your nearest brick and mortar (Fairfax Va), just to see what they have in stock so that if need be, you can visit the store to replace something, avoiding having to ship both ways to replace something. just in case.
They have some GREAT bundle deals on CPU/ MB. As a matter of fact, their " FX 8350 4GHz AM3+ Black Edition Boxed Processor " bundled with the "ASRock
970 Extreme4 AM3+ " MB for $239.98. You can save $ by getting it with a lesser CPU. but that 8350 looks sweet.
That MB is the one I bought back last year, and besides a couple of non-serious installation difficulties, It has been "berry berry good to me". seriously, I HIGHLY recommend that MB. I also got the FX 6400 6 Core, but they both share the Vishera core, and it is very stable and runs very well. You would have 1 more hardware core, and one more virtual core ( Hyperthreading ).
Now it is based on the 970 chipset instead of the 990FX but it is still feature rich. It support 32 GB of DDR3 Dual Channel RAM. Has 5 SATA ports on one chip, and another internal port and an eSATA connector on the backport plate, through a 2nd SATA Chip.
USB ? It has 4 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 connectors on the back plate, and headers on the MB to hookup another 6 USB 2.0, and 2 additional USB 3.0 ports. That is a total of 10 USB 2.0 ports, and 4 USB 3.0 ports. So save the money on USB cards, and make sure that you have the cables to hook up the internal USB ports. For the savings, you can probably get a good USB 3.0 Hub to put on your desktop, for all your game controllers,
I got my MB CPU RAM and a couple of incidentals for under $300, of course the 8350 is a BIG step up from my 6400.
Oh, and take a look at the video possibilities,
AMD 3-Way CrossFireX
AMD CrossFireX
AMD Quad-GPU CrossFireX
NVIDIA SLI
That should be enough to keep any possible video upgrades viable for the next several years.
Here, just check it out for yourself.
Of course at the first link I gave you, they do have more expensive MBs, but I was really looking for the best MB I could get for the money, that "bang for the buck" deal again . And I know that I made a great buy with that MB/ CPU.
I do not have any complaints about MicroCenter, but I have only been there once, everything I got has worked great, so no need to go back. Oh, and they do deliver too ......
