So I got this beauty waiting in the wings But before I start this pup, curious if any of you build any models and if so, what paints do you use? I really want this thing to look good, and well, not entirely thrilled with the Testors paint they have at the local shops so seeing if there is anything you might recommend.

I do 1/48 A/C and though I have been away from building for about four years or more I had started to use Polly Scale water based paints. I was getting good if not better paint jobs than my other paints. I tried the Testors water based and used good old Testors for years. I liked the water based it was much easier to clean my airbrush and didn't stink up the house as bad. Polly scale is not produced anymore, So I'm stuck with what my local shop has the model master line. I could order the Tamiya paints but I would pay alot more for it! My next build is a TBF Avenger I'll have to look to see who its made by. Ah its the Accurate Miniatures 1/48 scale TBF-1C Avenger, looks like a good kit!

I'll have to look into that, although saturday will be heading to one of the very few Tamiya dealers around, so might just pick up their paint and try it. Expensive yeah, but damn the models look so nice, i guess I can deal with a few extra bucks for their paint. although I'm hand painting these bad boys for now. Which is my problem with the Testors paint, well, i'm currently practicing on some of the 1/72nd scale Testor models (for like $8.50 they are good practice lol) and the paint by hand is a bit tough to deal with. I'll post up my terrible paint job on the cheap one when i'm finished, honestly, for the scale, and doing it by hand, it doesn't look half bad.

This is the one I use now www.testors.com/product/137119/A4306/_/A430_Intermediate_Double_Action_Internal_Mix_Airbrush_SetI have more control with a double action than a single but if your doing a 2 or 3 tone Navy paint scheme a single works well. Canned air will last about one to two planes. I would place the can in a pan or bowl with hot water about 1/3 up the bottom to keep it from losing pressure as it gets cold. www.testors.com/product/136953/A3205/_/Workhorse_Airbrush_Kit I have something like this too. Badger's are more expensive and more parts to remove and clean. The Aztec, you run water or thinner (depending on your pain) unscrew the tip and repeat. Easy clean up is why I use it, also makes it quicker to change paint colors. I built a 1/72 scale HE-111 and a Arado 234 both painted by hand. Yeah they didn't come out that bad at all. Once you get used to an airbrush its hard not to use it though! I don't have a SBD kit but I have the old monogram SB2C Hell diver I built a long time ago. No super detail, just right out of the box. Not a real good kit but at the time it was all that was out there. I'll have to see if I can dig it out for a picture or two.

Well most of mine are dusty or in need of repair, part fell off due to being in boxes and moving 4 or five times. The SB2C is going to need some work but I did find two that are not too bad. Dusty but they made it! BF109 trop G-6 with JG27 markings(Hasegawa), I went a little too heavy on the wash down the side. I was still learning this technique at the time. P-51 D (monogram)From around the same time.

SB2C not in that bad of shape..missing a few things and decals yellowing. Right out of the box with all the doors, gear and canopy working. If I build this kit again I would remove all of that and box in the gear doors. The raised panel details put me off of this kit though.

oh right, I read TBF but my brain said SBD, the ones you have look good, can only hope mine turn out that nice. I do have an airbrush gun somewhere in my parents house, in a box, who knows where, 500 miles away. Only been about 20 years since I used it last.
For the time being, i'll stick to my crap models with crappy brushes, work my way up, wife said I needed a hobby, so models and beer making it is! haha

Well, thanks, I did them when I was into it more..after I started the on line flying I kind of got out of it. So I bet my skills are not what they used to be! All my paints, glue and stuff is over 6 years old so I would need to buy all new stuff to go at it again. My wife went as far as buying me a new wrap around the room L shaped desk and the self healing desk pads to try to get me back into it. I got too many hobbies! Guitar, models, on line gaming, beer drinking and shooting guns (not at the same time though!) Back to your paint question, I have a 109E3 in 1/48 that I hand painted before I had the airbrush and I must have done something right with painting or just the paint because I can put up to my airbrushed ones and you can't tell! OK I did mess up on the sides a little. I painted the RLM blue then painted squiggles in RLM brown but I should have put the decals on before I did it because the brown shows right through. So it can be done and look good if you can find the right paint for it and really good brush. EDIT since I had the model box out Here, 100% brushed and 100% busted up but you see what I'm talking about. I think I brushed it did a fine course wet sand, glossed it decal it and dull cote..not too much. I just wish I had left the squiggles off until the decals.

unfortunately, my wife doesn't really consider online gaming a hobby... or watching 200+ baseball games a year...
Guitars are sorta out till my kids get older, or we get a bigger house, no way I'm taking the Martin out around my wife or kids haha.
shame there is so many houses/trailers hidden in the woods around the house here. Keeps me from shooting, although it doesn't stop the neighbors...
A bit too cold to go fishing. Either way, the old lady is sick so probably get lots of time in tonight flying and drinking.

Good me too! I always say to the wife when she says "You spend so much time on line with your buddies" I say "Well I could be down at a bar or strip joint with my buddies, you got bail money?" I get to play all night! haha. What Martin do you have?

Good question, I don't even know, I think I had it narrowed down at one point, but reason I don't know is... gonna try and make a long story short. Went to high school where they make em (Mario Andretti's house coincidentally was across the street from the school) Anyway, at the factory they have a 2nd's store, well, lucked out got one there that the only thing wrong with it was a tiny spot of missing paint behind the neck, was still lacquered over and all that. But the reason I don't know which one exactly is that they certainly don't put their name on those ones etc. (side note) Use to be if you worked there long enough they'd let you make your own guitar, minus markings.
Acoustic with electric pick up/equalizer on the side.
But if like Martin's my buddy's parents had/have this old as crap Martin 12 string... drool, that thing must be worth a small fortune by now.

Nice, Last Christmas my wife got me a "Randy Jackson guitar" like this one here but in black. Now I'm a Gibson SG guy but she knew I wanted an acoustic and not knowing anything about guitars she picked it up. It has the EQ, pick ups and a tuner on board. And I have to say it is a nice sounding guitar. It came with a practice amp and a chart of the basic chords, picks and all the beginner things.(like a how to play guitar DVD ) So I was thinking, really after playing for 28 years I get a noob guitar? But the action it very nice, it sounds awesome and has a good feel to it. The neck is not too wide and its easy to hit the fret board all over, single cut away but you can still choke up on the neck. No dead frets or buzzing. I never buy on line..if I can't play it first to see how it feels I'll pass. I do like this one for puttering around the house. Its not a Gibson but its still nice to play. Only if it was a 12 string!
