I am in the process of evaluating and researching a possible switch over to a new "Virtual HS/ actual HW/ SW/ scripting " process for Windows 7 for integration of my poor-mans simpit.
I am still, and continually, working on my pit, but I have to consider all aspects of intergrating it into Windows/ Games. I must be sure of the ability to use it, before making the switch, because I actually use the setup I have now on a semi/ daily basis. My current configuration, which includes using PPJoy (Virtual HW) with all of the actual HW components of my simpit, with Glovepie as my SW control/ scripting to make my sim-pit work with various sims in Windows 7.
The reason ? PPJoy that I have used since Windows 95 (A great piece of SW which creates virtual joysticks) and GlovePie ( the communication link between the actual HW and the virtual HW ) are no longer being actively developed.
So I have been keeping a close eye on 2 replacement SWs. Vjoy and FreePie. and am just about ready to make the switch. It will be a labor intensive process, but a necessary step to continue making use of my pit. Anyway, while reading through the FreePie forums, I found a link to a video by the lead developer of FreePie ,,,,
This may very well prove to be a total replacement for TrackIR. While not an Oculus Rift setup as it does not include the HMD video components, it is not nearly as expensive either.
If you do not own a TrackIR, or if yours starts going out, this is a real viable solution. Here is the video link ....
Check it out.
I would include an embedded video link, but there are NEW security concerns/ issues about embedding YouTube into a webpage. The new pop-up about the Full Screen permissions. More on this later, Just be carefull about allowing YouTube permanent permissions on your computer.
