Just a thread to get to know the new guys. I'll start. I have been in flight sims since 2004 started with Warbirds 2.77 went to Warbirds 3 then Aces high. They are more arcade shooter than sim. I found IL2 1946 in 2008 and played that ever since. I was an XO in a naval bomber/attack group then C/O. After that I stayed with IL2 1946 formed my own group and started to look at other games. Rise of flight, DCS, Cliffs of Dover and I am a founder/alpha tester for Battle of Stalingrad. Blackwolf.

Hey y'all. Looking to join up, so bit about me. Flight sims since, well, if you count x-wing and tie fighter... long ago, but i'm sure you don't Have IL-2 1946, CloD, although never really got too into either. Am the XO for =VX9='s War Thunder division and find that most of the time anymore I log on to teach maneuvers/formations all that good stuff. I'm pretty much the only one there playing Full Real Battles, so while i'm still plenty useful to others, I don't get to enjoy too much flying as a team in simulation type modes. So figured I would give this game a shot. I'd say I'm an average pilot, but certainly know how to work in a team setting. Anything else I missed let me know

Nice to hear from you Mudcat, and welcome. I don't know much about WT FRB other than what I read. ROF has a learning curve as any game does but its not that bad. One you get used to how an aircraft handles on the ground and the air its all fun. We normally fly the same plane maybe with mixed load outs to compliment each other for the mission we are doing. We try very hard not to "conga line" and fly together. You have the experience, you just need to get used to the new game. Most nights after 7pm east we will be on teamspeak and New wings wargrounds. Let me know what days/night are good for you to fly.
You should be getting the email for forum activation, let me know if you run into any snags.

Welcome to you Mudcat, I like the fact that you used the phrase ya'll. I too am from the south ( I am guessing that you are ), but I am a Texan specifically. and am really looking forward to flying with you. I have not yet posted about myself., so here goes the pertinent info. I am first and foremost a military veteran, a husband of more than 33 years, a father of 1 boy and 5 girls, and grandfather of at least 6, ( who the hell can keep up. ) My flight sim experience is rooted in CFS. I was also strictly an "Offline" player until recently (ROF). I had a played all 3 of the CFS series, although #3 never did get my full attention, because shortly after getting CFS3, I downloaded the demo of IL2. I was immediately hooked. The differences were astonishing and dramatic. I still have at least 4 different installs of IL2 in different iterations on my puter. I have also enjoyed many other sims over the years, the Hornet series, especially PSF and OIF. Janes F18, SDOE, and one of my all time favorites was LOMAC, with the follow up Cliffs of Dover 2. No, I never had COD 1, as I would not install StarF*cked. Heli-Sims were also a great distraction, especially Commanche 4, and Commanche vs. Hokum from Razorback , and a few of the various Apache sims. But alas, most of what I fly today, is Rise of Flight, I have ClOD, but am still way under-impressed with the "promise of" versus the actuallity of what was delivered. Plus that, I hate steam. I am really looking forward to the Battle of Stalingrad, think IL2 with the ROF engine. I will get it sometime next year as an early release. Not the beta testing that Black Wolf is doing, ( Keep us updated, will ya ? ) But to give you a clue as to what kind of sim pilot I claim to be, let me say this. My favorite WW2 AC, was the P47 Jug. The AC that I flew almost exclusively in LOMAC was the A-10, as well as 1 current AC in the DCS series, that is right, the A10. Are you seeing the thread here, I am a ground pounder, I love getting in the mud and blood. I am a ground attack pilot, or CAS ( Combat Air Support ). I love flying in general, but really love watching things go " boom ". I am a fair fighter pilot, and will refrain from High Altitude Level bombing as much as I can. Although I do not mind flying with the squad in formation, and dropping on command of a designated bombadier. Well I can, and sometimes do go on and on and on ..... But for now, will end it here. Again, nice to meet you mudcat, Grey Wolf.

Thanks for the welcome. and yes, i love down south in the good ol' North Kackalacky. Flying times, well, I'm available during the week every morning till about 3 ish. Then night times probably not starting to 10:30 or so eastern. Family time is family time, probably the only reason my wife doesn't give me grief about playing is that I don't put it infront of spending time with her or the kids. I usually don't play much if at all on the weekends (I know this is probably opposite of most people) For CloD, I'm guessing it's using the Team Fusion mod? I'm still kind of debating on getting BoS, I'd do the regular one, but when I go to the site right now the only option they show me is the $95 one. War Thunder's FRB, I've heard plenty of complaints lol. But a little while back they added an event mode to it. Seemed to make a world of difference. US planes in the game seem to be universally crappy, except Airacobra's and Kingcobra's, while I'm not one for the Russian bias people go on about, I do find it interesting that ones that seem to actually do well are the ones that the Russians used way more than we did. Anyway, FM's leave stuff to be desired on a lot, it can be a lot of fun as long as you are flying for fun, not to fly the most broken planes possible and cheeseball your way to victory. If you just go with it and play, it's fun, if you are the type to complain about inaccuracies, probably not a lot of fun As for me flying, I'm of a Wildcat kinda guy, or any plane really that is outclassed in every way by their enemy. Give me the worst plane in a game, and I usually wind up gravitating towards it. It be the RL equivalent of those guys in PO-2's vs Jets in Korea. I guess I just like a good challenge.

Nice..I like the F4F too. Coming from a squad that flew navy planes most of the time I grew to like that plane more than a f4u. My grandfather flew Hell divers of of CV13 the Franklin. That's why my number on any plane I fly is 13. Im going to make a thread about BOS when I get home today. I could tell he was from NC..I could hear the accent all the way up here in Roanoke

I think I have a few more years to wait on IL-2 : Guadalcanal/Midway/whatever. Just not a huge fan of the Russian or German WW2 planes, will be hard for me to justify buying it just to fly planes I dislike to begin with.
My grandfathers didn't fly, but probably built an airfield or two with the SEABEES, one in Guam in WW2, the other in the Korean War.
But the accent, that's mostly a written one, you probably won't hear much of one unless I've had a few, and then I'm told I sound like Hank Hill.
Also wanted to apologize about the RoF forums, I tried to be as diplomatic as possible, but really was kinda perturbed that first response I got there was essentially L2P from that other guy. I'm just old and cranky I guess, I don't normally respond to that, but you know, you figure first post, new player on a game that probably doesn't see a flood of new players at this point, and what do I get, welcome? nope, l2p lol.

Well I will be on from 7 until I pass out! So jump on teamspeak whenever you can, I don't smoke inside so if you see me away..I'm out smoking but I'll be there. Greywolf may not be on, he is in that Texas storm. I got word from him that the storm was messing with his power. Outlaw may join us..he is another WT player that has flown with us from time to time. Him and his buddy..I can't recall his name right now but might see him too. Either way it will be fun.

Hey thanks Duff4r for posting. We are always looking for tips and tricks to make ROF better on our computers. Food's not bad , but don't eat any "Grey Wolf taco's" and you'll be fine! As a small up and coming squad the three of us look to grow our squad and partner with like minded squads in the on line war of Rise Of Flight and other games. We do run IL2 1946, IL2 BOS, DCS P51, black shark, A10, Cliffs of Dover and Rise Of Flight. Its a lot of games..not all members have every game. No one member is required to have them all. Just one will do. As you are the Executive officer of your squad we will be communicating with you on our forum or yours and maybe Teamspeak, for planning missions, coordinating squad nights bomb runs and so on. So Welcome to our site!
