Here is a thought, if you were to run Nvidia ddr3 with a ddr5 would it work like ram and slow the ddr5 to 3? If each card was 1gig would that ddr5 running at ddr3 speed benifit the user by using the combined 2gig gpu?

Here is a thought, if you were to run Nvidia ddr3 with a ddr5 would it work like ram and slow the ddr5 to 3? If each card was 1gig would that ddr5 running at ddr3 speed benifit the user by using the combined 2gig gpu? I wish. But alas, No, it would not be SLi or Crossfire. That IS when theoretically the memory would be shared, and slowed to the slowest speed, IF it even worked. That is why most SLi and Xfire setups require identical cards. Although there have been exceptions posted about (is my skeptisism showing), Most of the time it won't even work as far as I know. If it would "share" the memory, then it would be a great thing. then you could just get a cheap 2 GB card, and then use it for texture memory. Like a HD4870 512 could be made into a HD4870 with 2.5 GB. Damn what a great idea. If someone finds out " HOW " to do that , please let me know. I have already been searching for an answer/ solution.

Well card makers want us to buy the lastest, greatest so I guess no way to make that work. oh well. Actually, it may be possible, but no one I know has been able to make it work. But this is not a new idea. It is like the idea of using 2 totally different cards at the same time, ie ATI / NVidia. It used to be said that this was not possible, and yet someone did find a way. So there may be hope, but you are right, the card makers do not want it to happen, corporate greeed the motivating factor. Like I told you the other night on TS, they used to make cards with slots to add extra memory to a graphics card, so there is no reason why THAT can not be done, except that the card makers live and die by the .... "buy our new cards" motive.
