Here is a thread about what is new in CloD when the 4.2 patch comes out in the next week or so. The new smoke is gonna be a frame killer. Maybe not with 1 or 2 burning objects, but they are talking visibility for 30Km. You get several destroyed ground targets, a few shot down planes, and boom, there goes gameplay. Maybe, and hopefully, I am wrong, but we will see ....... Be sure to look down the page for the flying pink pigs. For some reason it reminds me of "Pink Floyd" Maybe an album cover ..... ?

Well, So far everything Team Fusion has done has made it better, other than the ATI bug that was squashed reappeared (white lines in the distance). I'm sure they have tested it out on many differrent set ups so I hope it wont be too bad on the FPS. As you say, we shall see.

Yeah, not saying that it is a bad thing, or that TeamFusion is to blame, but rendering smoke is one of, if not the most frame killing effects, clouds, haze, and blur being the other real culprits that exist. But especially the smoke that is gradiently transparent towards the edges, ie the realistic looking smoke. And with the FX of columns that move and dissipate, that just adds to the realism and FPS killing. Also noticed more smoke to be rendered, when firing guns, you will now get the smoke from the gun barrels, and it will be trailing the wings as IRL. Great for gameplay, killing the FPS. The more realistic the FX (effects) in a game, the better for the players, but BAD on video cards. And still NOT TeamFusions fault, it is just that in making it more beautiful, they are upping the requirements for what HW will do the job.
